Long before glass towers came to define the Chicago skyline, the bridge houses along the Chicago River quietly watched over the city. Built for purpose rather than spectacle, they remain steady landmarks while the skyline continues to reinvent itself around them.
The Watch at State was inspired by the historic State Street Bridge House. Rather than placing the Marina City towers at center stage, the painting softens the towers into the background, where they become part of the atmosphere of an autumn afternoon along the river.
