Art Inspired by Places that Matter
My name is Scott Norman, and I’m the artist and creator of Stoney Bend — a Michigan-based art studio inspired by real places and the stories connected to them.
My work, influenced by childhood memories of Shel Silverstein, begins with discovering the character, history, and small details that make a place worth remembering. Much of the inspiration comes from Michigan places and landscapes that feel like home.
About the Work
Stoney Bend is rooted in slowing down, paying attention, and honoring places that hold lasting meaning. Each piece is drawn and painted entirely by hand, with careful attention to architecture, light, and setting --- capturing not only how a place looks, but something of how it feels.

The work is restrained and atmospheric focusing on character, composition, and the details that give a place its identity.
Why Place Matters
Homes, landmarks, and familiar settings carry meaning beyond their physical form. They hold memories, history, and connection. Often, these places become part of our own stories and sense of belonging.

Much of my work is inspired by Great Lakes lighthouses, shoreline towns, cottages, historic structures, travel memories, and places that have stood the test of time — or may have quietly disappeared with it. Michigan is home, and much of Stoney Bend continues to be shaped by the landscapes, communities and familiar places found here.
The Approach
Every Stoney Bend piece begins with a place worth noticing.

Discover • Paint • Write defines the approach behind my work. It centers around learning what gives a place its character, interpreting it by hand, and sharing the stories that makes it meaningful.

The process is unhurried by design. I'm less interested in documenting every detail than in finding unique qualities that makes a place feel like itself.
A Personal Note
Stoney Bend began as a way to use artwork to capture the stories behind places in our lives. Over time, it has grown into a creative practice centered around celebrating the places that matter.​

As my style naturally evolves, the heart of my work remains the same. Curiosity, connection and belief that meaningful art doesn't need to be loud to last.
