There was a time when northern Michigan cottages were built simply. Small porches, gravel drives, open windows, and long afternoons that seemed to last forever. They weren’t destinations so much as places where summer quietly unfolded.
 
Summer Remembered is an original ink and watercolor inspired by one of those cottages near Traverse City. Fine ink captures the familiar lines of the house—the porch, the windows, the old shade tree—while soft watercolor washes allow the landscape to recede, leaving behind the feeling of the place more than every detail.
 
I wanted this painting to reflect the way memory often works. We remember the cottage. The tree. The path leading to the front door. Everything beyond those moments softens into atmosphere.
