Standing quietly on the shore of northern Lake Huron, the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse has guided mariners since 1869. Just south of the lighthouse lies Sanctuary Bay, a protected harbor where sailors found shelter from the open waters of the lake.
 
Sanctuary is an original watercolor inspired by this enduring Michigan landmark. Fine ink defines the weathered brick, lantern room, and keeper’s house, while soft watercolor washes suggest the atmosphere shaped by decades of wind, water, and changing seasons. Rather than documenting every detail, my goal was to capture the quiet character of the place as it is remembered.
