Glen Haven feels different after the summer season has passed.
Northern Winds is my interpretation of the Glen Haven Canning Company building along the Lake Michigan shore in Northern Michigan. Known for its bright red exterior and familiar place in the Glen Haven landscape, here the building is stripped of its usual summer context.
The scene belongs to late fall or early winter. The beach is empty. Grasses bend toward the shore and the trees carry the shape of the wind coming off the lake. Ink holds the old building in place while loose watercolor carries the movement and atmosphere around it.
It is Glen Haven after the visitors have gone home—a familiar Northern Michigan place settling back into the weather.
Presented in a warm white matting and Heritage Oak wood frame, Northern Winds is a one-of-a-kind work from the Stoney Bend Originals collection.
